Diamond / CBN turning tools
The increased requirements in the manufacturing industry in regards to the accuracy of the workpieces and their surface quality have made the turning diamond indispensible in many industrial sectors.
Because of the mono-crystalline structure of the diamond it is possible to produce a precise, sharp and nick free cutting edge. These extremely sharp cutting edges allow a particularly slight cutting pressure at very high cutting speeds. The machining times are accordingly short. The only requirement is that the machine runs vibration-free.
Areas of application:
• Aluminium
• Magnesium
• Copper, bronze, zinc and lead
• Plastics
• Rubber
• Graphite
• Bakelite
Normally it is not possible to economically process ferrous materials with diamonds, because the affinity to carbon dioxide causes the diamond to wear much too fast. For this purpose we recommend using CBN turning tools.
We manufacture all kinds of turning diamonds and will be happy to assist you in optimizing your diamond tool.
We will just as well carry out repairs, quickly and with great care.
PCD
Polycrystalline diamond is a synthetic material which is manufactured using high pressure and high temperature. Its extreme strength properties make it ideal for use as a turning tool.
The high cutting power of PCD tools is a result of the superior hardness and wear properties of diamonds as well as the strength of the carbide carrier material.
The hardness of the PCD layer is equivalent to mono-crystalline diamond (MCD), its high thermal conductivity greatly contributes to the unique mechanical wear resistance.
Areas of application:
• Carbide
• Coloured metal (copper, brass, bronze, zinc)
• Al + Al alloys
• Plastics
• Ceramic
• Rubber
CBN
Cubic boron nitride is synthetically manufactured, similar to PCD, using high temperatures and high pressure. This high performance cutting material is the second hardest material after the diamond; it develops from polycrystalline cubic boron nitride on a carbide carrier base.
CBN was developed for fine machining tempered steel materials (45-68 HRC) that cannot be machined using diamond or PCD. Unlike with diamond, Fe metal processing with CBN causes hardly any chemical reactions.
Areas of application:
• Fe materials (45-68 HRC)
• Perlitic grey cast iron
• Cobalt, nickel or iron based alloys
• Carbides
• Sinter steels
• Cold and warm work steels
• Ball bearing steels and spring steels
• Surface tempered parts
